Claims Delegate
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) exists to meet the Nation’s commitment to care for our veteran and defence service community who have served Australia in times of war and conflict as well as peacetime. We do this through programs of care, compensation, commemoration, income support and Defence support services. The Client Benefits Division (CBD) has responsibility for the assessment of client’s eligibility and payability for Compensation and Income Support entitlements. It also manages applications for review of decisions in regard to these benefits. These functions are undertaken to give effect to defined DVA policy outcomes through registration, assessments, determinations, reviews and reconsiderations, as well as operational support activities such as quality assurance and compliance, performance reporting, business coordination and improvement and learning and development.

The key duties of the position include:
In accordance with the principles of workplace diversity, Work Health and Safety, participative work practices, APS values and APS Employment Principles, the duties may include but are not limited to:
- The management of a caseload of claims under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA), the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 (VEA), and the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988 (DRCA), including:
- Commencement of claims in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Requesting information necessary to finalise each claim.
- Maintenance of claim records in DVA computer systems.
- Follow-up and consideration of information.
- Seeking input from Senior Delegates, Medical Advisers and Triage and Connect staff, as required.
- Discussion of adverse findings with clients and advocates.
- Finalisation of claims.
- Completion of Needs Assessments and Treatment Path Determinations.
- Provide operational support and advice to Team Leaders.
Eligibility:
- Candidate must be an Australian citizen.
- Must be capable of passing necessary pre-engagement checks.
This recruitment process is being used to fill ongoing and non-ongoing positions.
A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
