This is an incredibly exciting time for visible, agile and high performing Corrective Services leaders to join the Northern Territory’s Department of Corrections’ Future Leaders Program as a General Manager in Custodial Operations. These vital leadership positions will continue the transformational journey of the Department and its expansion to strategically and operationally lead and manage correctional centres throughout the Northern Territory.

As General Manager you will:

  • Provide strategic direction, leadership and management of the Correctional Centre in line with the NTCS operating philosophy, strategic plan, budget and a culturally sensitive environment.
  • Develop and implement strategies that support and enhance community safety through prisoner education, healthy lifestyle, skills development, programs, employment and other options aimed at reducing reoffending.
  • Lead a team of senior staff in the development and implementation of the Correctional Centre business plan.
  • Establish and foster appropriate relationships with diverse corporate, government and community stakeholders.
  • Establish and promote a legislatively compliant custodial environment for staff, prisoners and service providers.
  • Establish and deliver systems and practices to record and report on statutory obligations and compliance of operational performance, human resource management, and financial activities.
  • Provide support and operational leadership in the development and consultation of critical infrastructure works associated with relevant elements of the Department's master infrastructure plan.

Your Experience

Transfer here, your proven strategic and operational leadership skills in a multi-disciplinary custodial environment with the ability to develop and manage innovative solutions to complex operational issues. You will possess demonstrated experience managing significant financial and physical resources, practice innovation and a history of influencing change and reform to deliver continuous improvement and capability building. You will be a people focused leader who seeks active staff and union engagement, whilst driving accountability and performance. You will further enhance broad and diverse stakeholder partnerships and provide a secure, safe and culturally appropriate custodial service.

As a General Manager, you will model and embody the Department of Corrections values – professional excellence, integrity and courage, respect and commitment, and accountability.
